On September 1st, 2026, Smarter Contact announced it acquired the assets of Launch Control. The two biggest texting platforms in the real estate space, direct competitors for seven years, are now one company.
I have used both over those seven years, and I switched to Smarter Contact three or four years ago and never went back. So this is not a surprise to me: Launch Control felt too old school and too limited, and it was not progressing the way Smarter Contact was. Still, it is big news if you use either one, so here are the actual answers.
The short version
Do nothing yet
Thousands of users are not losing their subscriptions. Smarter Contact says operations, subscriptions, and daily use are unchanged for now. Long-term pricing and the eventual single platform have not been announced.
Smarter Contact
It is the acquiring company, the one that kept shipping updates, and the one I moved to three or four years ago and never left. Starting on the platform being absorbed makes no sense.
Expect less competition
Seven years of head-to-head pressure is what drove the innovation here. One company owning both is good for the roadmap in the short term and worth watching on price in the long term.
Follow the money
A company does not spend what this costs to acquire its biggest rival in a shrinking market. There is still real money in texting for investors and wholesalers.
What the CEO told me
I emailed Josh Sanchez, CEO of Smarter Contact, for more detail. His account, paraphrased: Launch Control's business declined steadily over the last three years while theirs grew, and he attributes that to continuously investing in the product based on customer feedback rather than to any shrinking of the market. He says word spread among customers, and that the acquisition confirms what the best already knew
.
Obviously, that is the acquiring CEO describing why he won, and I would say the same in his position. But on the substance I agree with him: people doing serious texting volume already knew which of the two was better. That matches what I found when I compared every texting platform in the space.
If you use Launch Control, what happens now
The important part: nothing immediate.
- Launch Control still has thousands of users, and they are not losing their subscriptions
- Smarter Contact's announcement states that operations, subscriptions, and day-to-day use are unchanged for now
- What has not been disclosed: the long-term plan, future subscription pricing, or what the eventual single platform looks like
Reading their press release, the intent appears to be merging the two platforms and keeping the best of each to build a genuinely good AI texting product.
That gap is actually interesting, because there is no great AI texting platform in this space right now. REI Reply and others try, and they do not do it well, which I showed in detail when I tested XLeads end to end. Smarter Contact was strong on product. Launch Control was strong on white glove service, which the budget platforms cannot offer at all. Combining those two strengths, with Smarter Contact's pace of shipping, could produce something better than either.
The part I am less happy about
I like competition. Smarter Contact innovated as hard as it did partly because it had a rival it was trying to beat. Seven years of that pressure is why both platforms got good.
Now one company owns both. In the short term that probably means faster progress on a merged product. Longer term, somebody needs to show up and push them, because competition is what keeps a market honest for the people paying for it. Watch pricing over the next year.
What this says about the texting space
One thing worth sitting with: a company spent serious money to buy its biggest competitor in this niche. You do not do that in a market that is drying up.
If you are a wholesaler or investor wondering whether texting still produces deals, that acquisition is a stronger signal than anything either company could say in marketing. My own numbers back it: 86 leads for $300 in skip tracing in a market I had never worked.

This isn't for you if
- You are waiting for the merged platform before you start. It has not been announced and no timeline exists. Market now on what is available now.
- You are hoping the merger lowers prices. Fewer competitors rarely does that. Plan around today's pricing.
- You want an all-in-one. Neither of these is that. The all-in-one platforms are a different comparison.
Bottom line
If you are on Launch Control, nothing to do today. If you are choosing now, Smarter Contact, which is what I would have told you before the acquisition anyway. And if you are deciding whether to be in texting at all, the fact that this deal happened answers that.
If Smarter Contact fits your situation, my link and code RAUPH take $200 off your first month on any plan. And if you outgrow the platforms entirely, that is a different conversation.
